She’s working me out of a job

Most of Polly’s therapies are now at a therapy center.  She goes to a therapy preschool two times a week for two hours.  She’s at the center three more hours at various times for physical therapy and speech.

At home she sees her developmental therapist and her occupational therapist.  We have a little table and a chair she sits at for therapy time.

In the past I’ve always sat in on her home therapies.  I learned what Polly was learning and then repeated therapy activities with her throughout the week.

Recently Polly has really struggled with home-based therapy.  She doesn’t want to work and assumes her new independence by geting up and crawling or walking away.  When I was close she would come to me and I would ease her back to her seat.

So for two weeks I’ve sat in the dinning room and worked on the computer while she had her session.

It’s been great!  She interacts with the therapist much better without mom right there, follows directions, stays on task better.

My girl is working me out of a job!

I’m so proud of her.

Just like any other kid. That always baffled me that they are so much more independent and good for people when their mom’s not there! gee whiz

I wanted to tell you how much I enjoyed reading last month as you told your story…your journey. It was beautiful and really insightful too. I hope you will try to publish it some day. What a gift if would be for other new moms of ds babies to read your detailed experience and know someone understands. =)

Kayla refuses to do ANYTHING for me! When I stop in at her preschool I’m shocked at how independent she is. At home she’s helpless. I think she’s playing me, LOL.

We actually had to pull Kayla out of home therapy EI as soon as she was eligible at 2 years 9 months. She was becoming increasingly uncoopertive with the home therapists. I think she just needed a change.

Sounds like Polly is doing wonderfully!

YAY Polly! And yay for mommy, too. Gives you some independence, too. 🙂

    Hi,
I write the blog at http://www.einstein-syndrome.com. Today after following a lead from my WordPress stats, I learned that another blog is wholesale lifting my posts and using them without permission and without attribution. They are doing the same with yours if they have the wordpress tag “down syndrome.”

Go look here: www dot .downsyndrome dot com. (I don’t want to give them a link.) Someone bought that domain and is simply stealing content from other blogs. They are making money off of this, because they have a Cafepress store where they are directing traffic.

Any ideas of how to stop this?

Hi Gillian – I’m just following up on Miriam’s comment about blog theft. It’s happening alright. I’ve only just been made aware of it and I have no idea of how much content has been stolen. I’ll be following it up though.

I’ve been thinking about being away from the home therapy sessions, but I’m not sure how it would go yet. Glad it’s going well for Polly.

And I was gonna mention the wordpress thing with the post-stealing since I noticed yours on there too…but they beat me to it. :o)
