Her sisters

My three girls have entertained themselves this afternoon with an empty cardboard box that use to house pampers.

It started out a car, then a house, then a moving house, then a robot.

A few minutes ago all three made their way downstairs to the kitchen table for vanilla wafers, each dressed up in odds and ends; Elaina, a mom, Zoya, a librarian, Polly, a gymnast.

A large portion of Polly’s life is spent in therapy.  She was ecstatic to go back to school this morning after the winter break.  She gets occupational and developmental therapy at home, physical therapy and speech at school.

Sergei and I work with her.  We walked all over the neighborhood holding on to one of her hands before she could do it herself.  We stack blocks and read books.  We’re playing but there usually is a therapy goal somewhere in the mix.

Some days the girls get into ‘the zone’ as we say at our house.  They lose themselves in their pretend worlds, create fun and learn and grow.

I know we are doing a lot for Polly and I am so very thankful for all the help we receive for her.

But it’s her sisters who are the true therapists.

“Come on, Polly, let’s go back up stairs and play.”

They laugh and grab her hand and pull her along with them while Polly squeals with delight.

How sweet, my girls love those boxes too, Amanda just sits in them, KAra tries to smash them. Meghan yells at both.
